Government Intervention in the Funding of Nigerian University Libraries: An Appraisal of the Role of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (tetfund)

The paper examined the role of intervention agencies in the development of Nigerian university libraries with reference to the impact of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund). To elicit the necessary information for the study, the descriptive survey method was used with a 15-item structured questionnaire developed for data collection. The findings showed that TETFund was a timely and critical lifeline to university libraries especially the state-owned ones in the Southwest geopolitical zone. The findings further revealed that the Fund greatly enriched and improved collection development of the participating libraries. Among the major problems identified in the administration of the fund are delay in approval of proposals and administrative bottlenecks which constitute the common challenge university libraries accessing the fund.
