This study examines the inadequacies of the Nigerian criminal law of rape in the light of recent issues and emerging realities of the 21st Century, especially how this compares with the law in England, the United States, South Africa and India. It outlines the modern understanding and recent manifestations of the heinous crime, and explores the history, evolution and corresponding adjustments in the law of these jurisdictions. In conclusion, balanced reforms are suggested to cure the identified inadequacies in the Nigerian substantive and procedural law of rape.
