The Playwright as Nation Builder: The Example of Femi Osofisan

This paper centres on the impo11ance and contributions of the playwright to societal gr?wth and development and how it influences Nation building using the works of Femi Osofisan's Aringindin and the Night Watchman and Morountodun as case studies.
 Playwriting, a hushed but dynamic process which can be used at different times for different reasons that are basically concerned with the well-being of the society, is usually accosted by a hostile atmosphere, a situation where man tends to deny the truth concerning issues affecting the society, where man promotes his selfish cum self -centred interest.
It is with the aim of correcting this notion that this paper is written to ascertain the different roles and the process of play writing involves, as the dramatist incessantly struggles in the building of a desired nation. The upshot of this study will clearly bring to the fore these salient issues and applauds the dramatist, and his gift of storytelling will forever remain treasured and encouraged.
